Henderson Field, “Cactus,” Guadalcanal

Heard that the remainder of last night’s strike at Kahili was snafu. The TBFs saw some ships in the harbor and tried to hit them but only succeeded in getting some near misses. The Army B-17s thought they saw a carrier and dropped all their bombs on it but failed to hit it. They then went down to strafe it and found that it was a hospital ship. Thinking back, Savio and I both remember seeing a group of red lights out in the harbor immediately after our run.

No strike tonight so we proceeded to get thoroughly boiled. Savio was the wit of the party and Moe Wittman entertained by calling pigs a’ la Arkansas.
