“Button,” Espiritu Santo

Patrolled 750 miles today. Sector #4. Took a look at the famed and legendary Stewart Islands on the way up. That atoll of beautiful nymphomaniacs is sprawled on the edge of the usual placid lagoon. The village on the main, southernmost island is quite immaculate and as we passed the entire Polynesian population was out waving at us with everything from sarongs to palm fronds.

In the lagoon there were a few canoes from which natives were fishing with the lines and hooks, while off the reef in the deep water were a group of six to eight canoes, also fishing. All stood up in the tiny canoes and waved as we passed. Was sorry not to have any cans of cigarettes to drop on their village.
