San Diego

Up early. Beautiful desert morning. Warm sun. Lizards. Birds. Sat by swimming pool and soaked it up. Finally saw David leave his house for breakfast. Ambled over and sat down to preside at a table load of pulchritude. Whew.

Shoved off about 10 for Pasadena with Kate and Ann Schlaudeman. Ann’s pup, “Dumbo” – a cute little beagle with big ears – was sick three times in the back of their Buick convertible. The fumes were terrific. Ann and I stood by and watched poor Kate clean it up.

Pulled out of Chandlers and headed for San Diego. Pulled into Trude’s very beautiful house about five. She overlooks a canyon, and the house itself is beautiful Spanish style, patio and all.

Pick up Betty Hines for dinner at Trude’s. Betty, truly, look like $10 million – damn near knocked me over. She’s undoubtably one of the most beautiful girls I’ve ever known (almost a dead ringer for Hedy Lamarr) with a fine personality and character. She works for Ryan Aircraft – $180 per month – damn good.
