S.S. President Polk

Heavy tropical rains this morning. Went out on deck, just forward of our cabin, with Pendola, and had myself a shower in the nude. Water, or rather rain, was just about the right temperature, cool, and very refreshing. Expect this to be universal in a few more days, as we seem to be running short of water.

Passed Pitcairn’s Island about 8 miles to starboard this evening, but due to rain squalls, couldn’t see it. Wish we could have stopped off to see the place – and I’ll wager the Islanders wish somebody would stop there pretty soon, as I understand that they are running short of medical supplies due to the scarcity of passing boats in wartime.

Still averaging due south.
