S.S. President Polk

Foggy, but cleared toward noon. Had an alarm at noontime when someone on the bridge thought he saw a plane. It was nothing however.

Filled a wool sock with what I thought were absolute necessities, in case we have to take to the boats. Money ($6.00), pomade (?) (for chapped lips), Claire’s medal, couple toothbrushes (new) and my camera, with extra film.

Spent most of the afternoon playing poker here in the cabin. All came out about even after two hours of playing.

Finished reading the “Arabian Nights” – took me six days. Found it very colorful and entrancing. As it was the unexpurgated edition, some of the language and incidents in it were extremely funny.
