Netherlands East Indies

As we have not been bombed for the past three days, that carrier that was set afire must’ve been furnishing the fighter protection for the Jap bombers which were coming over here. I guess they don’t want to come over without protection, as the opposition is going stiffer here all the time.

Ben Kruys, a very fine fellow, is from the Hague, Holland. Told him I been here just before the war broke out. Asked him if he knew Lokkie’s father of Royal Dutch Shell — Jacobsen. Said yes, of course. Really is surprising how many connections one runs into beating about the world.

My old room boy, with a superb mustache, is driving me nuts by straightening up my bed and letting mosquitoes in it, all the time.
