“Cactus,” Guadalcanal

Had FIVE air raids on the field here last night. One ammunition dump was hit and a number of men killed. The fighter strip was hit and six F4Us were damaged. Got very little sleep. “Robbie” Robinson got pretty badly banged up in three headlong falls down the hill to the shelter. There is great activity all day in digging and enlarging “foxholes.” Noticed that our AA and searchlights are very inferior to that of the Japs. However the Japs were up around 25,000 feet. All our highly touted night fighters are protecting Oahu and the West Coast.
