“Cactus,” Carney Field, Guadalcanal

Took Admiral to Munda in the “24” — his first trip. Also looked over Ondonga, the Curtiss, Vila, Barakoma, the Russells, Tulagi, and Carney and Koli fields. The admiral flew the plane for about an hour on the way down the north coast of New Georgia.

Committed the greatest break of my job to date. Neglected to invite General Murray and Colonel Noel to dinner under the impression Burke was doing. God what a feeling when I found out it hadn’t been done, and the Admiral was expecting them, a chicken dinner had been arranged and a special movie corralled.

Am taking 4 staff officers to Nouméa tomorrow in the B-24.
