“Cactus,” Carney Field, Guadalcanal

Another noisy dry drunken brawl last night, which left me with a little over four hours sleep, so this morning, before going on patrol, I raised hell in the hut; woke everyone by kicking a bucket around and yelling. Have hopes of it bringing about the desired results. All the bitching Joe Hall, myself, and others have done has been useless to date.

Patrolled 775 miles toward Ponape. Negative search. Joe Hall on the #1 sector ran into three DDs, a 10,000 ton AK, and a 15,000 ton transport, north of Kavieng. An air cover over the ships prevented his attacking the fat morsel.
