“Cactus,” Carney Field, Guadalcanal

Patrolled 800 miles over the equator to point north of Nauru. Clark in the next sector (the “Nauru” sector — most easterly) ran across a CL, two DD, and two Mitsubishi 96s, 25 miles north of Nauru, on their way in to the island. To all appearances they did not spot him although he was close enough to identify their class (1 Jintsu, 2 Asashio). Saw nothing in my sector, although the visibility was unlimited. Weather beautiful.

We’re running the same patrols as formerly — 10 sectors, 9 degrees each, extending north from Karieng to north of Nauru.
