Pearl Harbor

War started out here six months ago today.

When into town with Joe Adkinson and Shaw. Trader Vic’s was shut, so we went to the Halekulani hotel in Waikiki. It is truly the nicest of Honolulu’s hotels and has, besides a beautiful view, a very lovely garden.

Went to Pat Smart’s for lunch. Richard is going to the States on his army camouflage work, and Pat and the children are waiting for clipper accommodations. Mrs. Marion Worthington was there too. Very pleasant afternoon. Went to the zoo with Pat and the two children — little Tony is certainly a masterpiece of a child. Found myself actually hoping people would mistake me for his father.

Back to the island and a movie. “H.M Pulham, Esq.” with Hedy Lamarr — saw it once before but cannot resist Miss Lamarr in any form. My God, but she is beautiful. In my opinion she is the very zenith of feminine beauty.
