“Cactus,” Carney Field, Guadalcanal

Weather becoming better steadily. The rainy season is just about past.

A big fire this morning. The gas line to Henderson broke at the Lunga Crossing and the gasoline ran down the stream, where was ignited by someone. The fire raced up the river with 200 foot flames and terrific smoke spreading pandemonium along the banks and the bridges. It went out as soon as the gas was shut off.
