“Button,” Espiritu Santo

A month ago today was the St. Valentine’s Day massacre. This morning I departed, on instruments and lousy weather, to rejoin my squadron at Button. We are now officially designated as VB-101. VP-51 is no more.

The natives on Bougainville report, through the coastwatcher, that the Japs are very short on food, due to our making it so hot for their shipping. We’ve partially succeeded.
