“Cactus,” Carney Field, Guadalcanal

Borrowed two engined Cessna from Army photographic squadron (17th Photo Squadron) to take the Admiral and Captain Morehouse over to General Moore’s for a swimming party (with champagne) to celebrate the general’s new star. The Cessna handled very nicely despite the fact that it is the first light plane I’ve ever flown. Did bounce a few times though.

  1. The twin Cessna would have been the Cessna T-50/AT-17/UC-78/JRC-1. The army version would have been the AT-17 or UC-78 version depending on when built. He’s mis-speaking here since he would have flown even lighter single engine aircraft in primary and intermediate training.
