“Cactus,” Guadalcanal

Took off for another raid on the Kiera-Kahili area last night, but was forced back by the successive failures of the autopilot, intervalometer (necessary for bomb spacing), and the radar (as usual). Landed with 2,200 gallons and eight 500 lb. bombs (quite a feat at night). This landing was just about the last straw for my brakes, which were already worn from previous similar landings. (The raid was “snafu.”)

Took my plane back to Button for repairs this afternoon. Pete Kooy and Bill Thomas, and their crew came along as passengers. They are to pick up Davis’ plane and return with it to Cactus. Davis has taken a run-out powder on the squadron.
