“Button,” Espiritu Santo

Did laundry, wrote some letters, and read Harper’s, Omnibook, and Time. The May issue of Reader’s Digest, which just arrived, contains the second part of “Queens Die Proudly.” It concerns the Army B-17 squadron which was in Java when I was there. The descriptions bring back many memories – painful and otherwise.

Wrote Noje a birthday note. God alone knows where the poor kid is now. I suppose he’s left North Africa for India or China.
