Halekulani Hotel

Spent the day at the Halekulani. And completely out of touch with the squadron, but as I have a no flying order from the doc, I am relatively safe from any reprimands. The sun and rest are helping my back considerably. Could straighten up after three hours in the sun today.

Had Marion Robinson and Jean Weir over for the dinner I owed them for so long. Spent the rest of the evening over at their house listening to Xmas carols.

Vandermade tells of Johnston Island”s daily search report which came in last night while he was on duty. Decoded it began

“’Twas three days before Christmas

and all over the map

not a creature was stirring

not even a Jap.”
