SS President Polk, South Pacific

Started to calm down a bit this noon although the winds seems just as strong as ever.

Finally had the long delayed (because of the weather) movie in the lounge – Margaret Sullivan and C. Boyer in “Back Street.” The audience howled in chagrin at Boyer when his actions did not agree with their standards. Remember someone next to me yelling “stinker” at him at times when he kept Sullivan from her marriage to continue as his mistress.

This voyage is beginning to get on a few nerves around here – yells and screams of sheer boredom sound down to the corridors – accompanied by poundings, thumpings, and bystanders’ curses.

Army officers grabbed Hubbard, in the lounge after dinner, and cut his hair off short. His remonstrations were comical. “Gentlemen – please, gentlemen – I’m in a different branch of the service – gentleman!”

Four of us played “Hearts” till late.
