Heard this morning that Italy has authorized Pope Pius to sue for peace on their behalf. Wonderful! If only we could clean out Germany before winter, we’ll be able to concentrate on Japan, before it’s too late.

Munda is still unconquered. Heard recently that much of our failure to do better can be laid to the C.O. of the Army’s 43rd Division – General Hester. His immediate replacement was ordered by dispatch and General Hodge has now taken his place.

Rained all last night and today again. We all spend most of the day sleeping, reading, or arguing violently on the war, flying, and women.
