Great Australian Bight

Was assigned to opening and running a ship’s passenger library – it’s better than freezing your balls off out on the bridge – but just the same, it revolts me – what a hell of a way for a pilot to fight a war – God damn it, well I never get a decent airplane under me and be allowed to turn to on “our little yellow brothers?”

Finished Ludwig Bemmelman’s “Life Class.” Enjoyed it immensely. Most of it was very funny and I persistently annoyed other readers by laughing out loud at some of his satire. Many parts of it, however, were rather sad and nostalgic.

Pulled in to Adelaide, South Australia, a little after dinner this evening. I’m seeing every Australian city, but the two at most like to see – Sydney and Melbourne.

Rumors are floating around with this thing is going to Norfolk, VA– can I ever get away from that “cloaca of the world” — (Bemmelman’s term).
