Barbers Point NAS

Back to work this morning. Our exec, Schoenweiss, is slowly and surely ruining the morale in this outfit. “Stack” Glanz has applied for transfer to another squadron. If he goes, we’ve lost one of our finest pilots.

These damned “Academy regulars” are, for the most part, a ratty bunch. The East Indies, Midway, Alaska, and the Solomons have all showed them up as yellow, with only a few exceptions. They are the big shots until the fighting starts, then they grab off the ground jobs, and send out the reserves to take it on the chin.

Got a letter from Ortwin today. This poor fellows think they’ve been forgotten. Due to the senior man (O’Dell) being only a “j.g.”, they don’t drag down enough weight to preventable the dirt being shoveled off on them. I went in to speak too Moffatt about it this afternoon, and he acted as thoughthere was nothing he could do about it. He’s afraid of sticking his precious neck out. These God-damned Academy men haven’t got enough guts between them to fill one small pig. I’m always ashamed to admit that I ever went to the dump.
