Ford Island, Pearl Harbor
Decided to stay out at the house all day. Spent the morning helping to clean up the week’s accumulated dirt and low for the rest of the day.
Fort Ruger had night firing practice at a target being towed about five miles out at sea. The target was illuminated by searchlights from Koko Head and Diamond Head. As each shell left its howitzer in a flash of flame it was possible to pick it up by its tracer material and follow all the way out to see where it disappeared in a tremendous splash near the target. The shell “shush-schussing” through the air sounded like a freight train at high-speed.
