Barbers Point NAS

Navy announced the damaging of another one of our carriers in the Solomons! Plus a Jap push at the Fijis. We’re losing this thing very nicely. The damaged carrier is either the Enterprise or the Hornet, most likely the latter. Slight inklings of a possible Jap jab at this place. Army is on the alert after the siding of a Jap sub 12 miles south and the spotting by the patrols of a pair of land planes 600 miles north — unidentified.

Up to cocktails and dinner at Barbara Thompson’s. All past differences were settled and the hatchet was buried — for the time being, anyway. Excellent dinner. The first rare roast beef I’ve had in six months.
